Can random, sudden smells be caused by ghosts?

I have kind of always thought my house is haunted because things will randomly move, fall, make noises, etc. a lot. And just now I was sitting here in my room and out of nowhere I got a huge whiff of old-lady smelling perfume that I've NEVER smelled before. Could the smell have been caused by a ghost?
