How to record professional quality guitar?

so i got kicked from my band because i dont have good equpiment and such, so i want to get back at them and record some great solo stuff. but when i record with this wire that goes from my guitar to the computers usb, it sounds muffled and not clear, and when i try and overlap two guitar tracks, it just sounds like a bunch of muffle. Does anyone know what software or hardware i would need to record good sounding electric guitar?
