LA Recording school or University ?

Hi was wondering if it was better to go to a recording school or university, want to major in recording and post production, I could go to a University but I would be focused on other subjects rather than mainly focusing on one subject. From what I heard, its how good your at it and not what a piece of paper tells you that you done. Any advice ?
